The latest episode of This American Life is about heretics -- namely one incredibly influential pentecostal preacher with a congregation of 5,000 who believes he heard God one day tell him hell does not exist.  And thus became a heretic.

It's a fascinating listen.

Quite simply, the recording for This American Life rocked.  It kicked off with indie-rockers OK Go.  Ira Glass came out soon afterward and started to talk about the different kinds of impact radio and television can have on people (the short version: radio can be more intimate while television can be more epic).  Sarah Vowell came out next and read ( Read more... )

Not mine. It's Emma's birthday today. We're celebrating by having dinner in Hollywood (with her folks) right after Claire's eye doctor appointment. Next week, I'm taking her to see a live recording of This American Life -- one of her favorite shows on NPR. I like American Life, but she's a nut for it.
